Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. 1981 she started covering at the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. In 1992, she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to cover White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Her coverage included a variety of important stories like the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms and also the arms control. She traveled widely along with the president Reagan during summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
